Air Resources Engineer
California Air Resources Board's (CARB) Aftermarket Advanced Technology Section (AATS) within the Emissions Certification and Compliance Division is looking for an enthusiastic, creative, highly motivated, and organized Air Resources Engineer (ARE) to support the aftermarket programs. AATS is at the forefront of assessing innovative aftermarket products, including EV conversions, fuel tank modifications, aftermarket catalytic converters, aftermarket critical emission control parts for on-highway motorcycles, and other aftermarket technologies as far as their compliance with the various regulations and procedures that AATS is responsible for implementing and supporting. Under supervision of the section manager, Engineers in the section evaluate designs and test data of aftermarket parts and retrofit systems. They will perform engineering evaluations to determine the effect of performance parts on emissions, analyze vehicle/engine emission data, prepare reports and other technical documentation for approval, develop pertinent engineering test procedures for emission compliance testing and prepare necessary correspondences and guidelines to applicants. Evaluation of parts may also involve review of manufacturer durability test plans, on-board diagnostics II (OBD II) compliance, and impact on vehicle auxiliary emission control devices. Engineers in this section also provide support for various databases, conduct warranty report reviews, support potential recall activities, and may conduct audits of exempted aftermarket parts.
