About Us
K.M. Powell Engineering provides structural engineering and design services for a select
clientele which includes architects, contractors, developers, and owners. We execute our
structural designs in a focused range of construction market sectors to ensure a high degree of efficiency and quality on all projects. We are team players dedicated to meeting needs and exceeding expectations. We are seeking motivated Structural Engineering Interns to join our team this summer and gain hands-on experience in the industry.
Internship Overview
As an intern, you will work closely with licensed engineers and project managers on real-world projects. You will be exposed to structural analysis and design of buildings ranging from one story commercial buildings to multi-story $10M plus high-end custom homes throughout SC. You’ll gain experience in structural design, drafting, and site inspections while developing professional skills that will prepare you for a career in civil and structural engineering. The intern will experience firsthand the opportunity for structural engineering professionals to serve society and leave their legacy in our built environment, one structure at a time.
Responsibilities
• Assist in preparing structural drawings, details, and models (AutoCAD/Revit)
• Support engineers with load calculations, analysis, and design checks
• Participate in project documentation (reports, proposals, technical specs)
• Attend site visits and assist with inspection reports
Qualifications
• Undergraduate Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or graduate student currently in an ABET
accredited Civil/Structural Engineering program (or recent graduate)
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit
• Basic understanding of the design of any of the following materials: reinforced concrete,
structural steel, reinforced masonry, wood framing, cold-formed steel framing, deep
foundations.
• Familiarity with structural analysis software (RISA, STAAD, etc.) is a plus
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
