WHAT: Environmental consulting firm that specializes in soil and groundwater investigation, remediation, and design is offering a career-track position starting at the staff or senior staff level, depending on years of experience. You will be trained to assist project managers on job sites throughout California and possibly in other states. The proportion of field to office work is initially 70:30; as you gain experience toward becoming a project manager, this ratio will switch. Initial field tasks include installing borings and monitoring wells, collecting and logging soil and groundwater samples, and performing operation and maintenance on treatment systems. Initial office tasks include evaluating data, writing report sections, and preparing tables and figures.
WHO: A highly motivated person who can perform tasks independently, but who also enjoys working on a team that includes colleagues, subcontractors, and vendors. Attention to detail, organization, creativity in problem-solving (MacGyver-type), and mechanical knowledge are essential, as are strong writing, communication, and computer skills (including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel). A strong GPA with a B.S. degree in engineering, geology, or environmental science is required; references from college professors (for recent graduates) and technical employers are helpful. Previous consulting experience and 40-hour HAZWOPER training are desirable, but entry-level candidates are still encouraged to apply. Excellent health is necessary to perform field tasks and pass a respirator fit test. Field tasks require the following physical demand:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds at a time.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods, sometimes up to 3-½ hours at a time.
- Ability to make repetitive substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Ability to communicate in written or verbal modalities to serve internal and external customers.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, walk, stand, and move about intermittently throughout the day.
- Ability to walk up and down stairs, and walk varying distances.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
