Engineering Intern
Job Summary
As an Engineering department Intern at Twin Rivers Technologies, the Intern will be expected to become familiar with process equipment fundamentals and best practices, build critical thinking skills, and gain an understanding of how all engineering disciplines work together as a cohesive team.
The Intern will also gain knowledge of various aspects of an Oleochemical refinery such as Twin Rivers Technologies by working with a team of professionals not only in the Engineering department but also in the Operations and the Maintenance departments. Understanding of how the plant operates is a key component of the internship and the intern will have to review fundamentals of unit operations such as evaporation, gas-liquid separation, liquid-solid separation, distillation, liquid-liquid extraction, and chemical reaction. Additionally, the intern will receive fundamental training in Safety and Environmental aspects of an oleochemical refinery such as Twin Rivers Technologies.
The Intern will also learn practical aspects of engineering concepts such as material & energy balances, heat & mass transfer, and fluid mechanics in such a way that both the company and the Intern will benefit from it mutually.
Interns will have the opportunity to expand their written and verbal presentation skills in a professional work environment when delivering presentations to a broad audience as requested by the Engineering team.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The intern will be assigned a mentor that will provide the necessary tools to fulfill their role and guide them throughout the process of developing multiple projects such as:
- Develop a Process Safety presentation for Leadership and production team.
- Support the efforts for Management of Change (MOC) documentation close out: Generation of Piping and Instrumentation diagrams “as-builts”.
- Prepare process documentation such as standard operating procedures SOPs.
- Support the development of piping line lists.
- Support the development of bill of materials.
- Support technical clarification meetings with vendors and contractors.
Additionally, the intern will be involved in the development of piping and instrumentation diagrams under the supervision of a Process Engineer or a Project Manager, participating in meetings with Consulting companies, participating in meetings with vendors, participate in meetings with contractors, interacting with Operations team, interact with maintenance department. Additional tasks will involve specific training in safety and case studies and past learning from the chemical industry. The Intern is expected to present their work to the Leadership team multiple times during their tenure at Twin Rivers Technologies.
Formal Education / Certification Requirements
- Pursuing a degree in Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite programs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Able to communicate with all levels of employees
