Quality Manager
General Statement of Duties: Responsible for the effective planning, coordinating, and directing of all quality related activities at the Wilmington facility. Responsible for maintaining a Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 and has responsibility of On-Site Management Representative regarding any ISO related items.
Also, responsible for supervising all blending operations at the Wilmington facility and for assisting the HSE Coordinator in ensuring compliance to all HSE requirements.
Reports to: Vice-President of Operations (dotted line to Corporate Director Quality Control)
Education: Undergraduate college degree or higher preferred in chemistry or other related field.
Skills and Abilities: Good professional, technical, and managerial skills coupled with sufficient lab and/or education experience. Working knowledge of basic lab concepts and procedures and able to direct others on how to carry out these procedures. Must have a good feel for quality and ability to interact with customers on a technical level.
Responsibility and Authority:
- Oversee the quality functions of all operations of the Wilmington facility. Also assigned the duties of On-Site Management Representative (MR) for compliance with ISO 9001:2015.
- Supervise and train laboratory personnel on all test methods and procedures. Also must perform any such tests when other personnel not available.
- Supervise and train blending personnel on proper blending procedures and processes and troubleshoot any blending issues.
- Develop new test methods and/or procedures based on customer supplied information or any other recognizable authority such as ASTM.
- Develop appropriate quality and lab forms in order to provide documented evidence of the completion of these tasks.
- Responsible for the staffing of lab, blending, and quality personnel. This includes keeping employee time records and writing employee performance reviews when necessary.
- Ensure that all safety procedures are followed while handling chemicals. This includes all plant personnel, not just those directly supervised.
- Ensure that all measuring devices used in any areas of the plant are properly calibrated and maintained and that records are properly kept. This includes ALL scales. Also ensure that outside calibrations are performed at designated intervals.
- Ensure that all inspection records are properly maintained and kept secure.
- Has responsibility as Document Custodian for the Wilmington facility. This means ensuring that all employees are using the most current version of work instructions or procedures and that all obsolete versions are properly removed. Maintains the Master Lists of Documents and Records.
- Order lab equipment and supplies as needed to properly perform required tests in addition to blending equipment or supplies to maintain blending processes.
- Ensure that all customer owned property such as formulations, specifications, and quality manuals, are kept safe and secure.
- Use customer provided formulations to develop blending procedures utilizing existing blending equipment that will consistent meet customer quality specifications. Use this knowledge to develop batch sheets as needed to ensure product integrity is maintained. Provide blending personnel with the most recent version of these documents.
- Authority to make final disposition on quality of product that has been packaged or reworked.
- Implement corrective actions when necessary in order to improve and/or enhance the quality of products and services provided. This includes investigation of any non-conformances, assigning a Corrective Action Report (CAR), and completion of all quality related documents.
- Assist Operations Manager and other supervisors in performing risk analysis on processes.
- Participate in any customer quality audits or HSE audits as needed to ensure compliance and customer satisfaction.
- Work closely with the HSE Coordinator in keeping current with any HSE compliance requirements including reporting to required documents to regulatory agencies (Form R, Tier II, etc.). This includes maintaining all SDS documents.
- Maintain a Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with the requirements of ISO-9001:2015. Report to Corporate Director of Quality Control on any compliance issues as they relate to this ISO standard. Also, responsible for performing internal audits on areas not directly supervised and generating audit reports on any findings.
