Public Health Engineer Trainee

VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
PUBLIC HEALTH ENGINEER TRAINEE 
                                            GRADE 13
        ORANGE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
                    
Applications are now being accepted to fill the position of Public Health
Engineer Trainee at the Department of Health.   The nature of the appointment is temporary
substitute. Once the permanent holder attains status in another position, this position will
become permanent, subject to a probationary term. The trainee level is used to recruit into
the public health engineering field, individuals who demonstrate a career interest in the
public health engineering field with County government.  Trainees receive on-the-job training
while performing increasingly responsible and independent activities in the field of public
health engineering as it applies to one or more of the specialized phases of the public health
engineering program.  Direct supervision may be received from Public Health Engineers or
other technical superiors during the training period with final review of all projects by the
Principal Public Health Engineer or Senior Public Health Engineer.  Trainee appointments are
for a period of one year, following which incumbents in a competitive title receiving
satisfactory ratings will be advanced to the title of Public Health Engineer without further
examination.  Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:
A. A Bachelor's Degree in engineering; OR
B. Possession of a license to practice as a professional engineer in New York State. 

Note: Your degree or credits must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional,
national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S.
Secretary of Education. If your degree or credits were awarded by an educational institution outside the United
States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies
who provide this service can be found on the Internet at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm. You must
pay the required evaluation fee. 

SALARY:  Grade 13: $34.9952/hr; $72,790.02 annually (40-hour work week) 
County Employees- As per CSEA contract for Grade 13  
Following one year of successful traineeship, incumbents in a competitive title will advance to
full performance Public Health Engineer, Grade 14, Engineering Differential, $86,903.23
annually.
