AI Agent Developer

About MDI

MDI builds mission-critical software for the insurance and risk management industries. Our platforms power policy administration, claims management, compliance tracking, and insurance operations for organizations across the U.S. and internationally.

This summer, we are investing in AI to automate real business processes and create measurable operational leverage.

We are seeking a technically strong intern to design and deploy AI agents that improve internal workflows, customer support operations, implementation processes, and sales intelligence.

This is a build-and-ship role, not a research internship.

What You’ll Do

Working directly with executive leadership and engineering, you will:

  • Design and deploy AI agents using LLM frameworks
  • Build automation agents for:
    • Customer support ticket triage and resolution suggestions
    • Insurance document and contract analysis
    • Automate documentations for business and technical needs
    • Sales research and account intelligence
    • Knowledge base summarization and internal reporting
    • SharePoint agents to search and gather information
    • Dashboard insight to support business strategy
  • Integrate AI agents with systems such as JIRA, CRM tools, and internal databases
  • Develop structured workflows (multi-step reasoning + tool use)
  • Test and refine performance, reliability, and cost efficiency
  • Deliver a final demo showcasing production-ready AI workflows
  • Serve as an internal AI subject-matter expert (SME) for teams across the company
  • Design and deliver lightweight AI training sessions and documentation for non-technical teams (operations, support, sales, client management, qa, and ba)
  • Establish best practices for AI usage, safety, evaluation, and cost efficiency
  • Advise teams on where AI agents and automation can create the highest operational leverage

Your objective: create systems that reduce manual labor and improve speed and accuracy inside the company.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field
  • Strong Python or JavaScript skills
  • Experience working with LLM APIs
  • Demonstrated ability to build working software projects

Preferred:

  • Experience with agent frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.)
  • Familiarity with vector databases and embeddings
  • API integration experience
  • Experience building workflow automations
  • Understanding of evaluation, guardrails, and prompt reliability

What Success Looks Like

By the end of the internship:

  • At least 2–3 AI agents are deployed internally
  • Measurable time savings or workflow improvements are documented
  • A repeatable framework for future AI development is established

Why This Is Different

  • Direct exposure to executive decision-making
  • Real production deployment, not sandbox experiments
  • High ownership and accountability
  • Potential pathway to extended engagement or full-time role
