STEM Internship (Visiting Student Research Program)

The KAUST Visiting Students Research Program (VSRP) is a fully-funded internship program that offers students the opportunity to conduct innovative research in STEM disciplines. We have over 100 other projects in STEM fields - find the one which aligns with your program and apply.

What is Visiting Student Research Program?

Through the program you will be immersed in the day-to-day working of a real-world project within the research lab/group under the guidance of KAUST faculty mentors and their staff for the duration of their internship.

You’ll have access and training in all of our facilities and laboratories. The facilities themselves are specifically designed for post-graduate projects and professional research, with state-of-the-art equipment and the latest technologies. 

We believe that great ideas flow when we’re relaxed, so KAUST offers a balanced lifestyle between studying and conducting research. Through this internship you will have opportunities to get pursue your personal hobbies, join student clubs, participate in sports and recreational programs, or volunteer your skills to support a local project.

Program Structure

Projects range from 12 to 24 weeks and start all year round making it easier for you to fit them into your current academic schedule.

Supervision and mentoring is a critical component of the internship. Accepted students are immersed in the day-to-day workings of a lab or group, and supervised on the whole by a faculty member at KAUST . 

Social and Cultural Activities

We have a free social and cultural program for everyone, including coffee meet-ups, dinners, or weekend trips to areas of cultural and historical significance.

Eligibility

The program is open to driven students strong academic background that meet the below criteria:

·      Students pursuing or completed Bachelors or Masters programs

·      Strong verbal & written English skills (no test scores required)

Benefits

This is a fully-funded program. Students admitted into the program receive:

·      1,000 USD monthly stipend

·      Free health insurance

·      Travel costs (including visa & flights)

·      Private bedroom & bathroom

·      Access to KAUST’s Core Laboratories and major research facilities

Requirements

When submitting your application, you will need to provide the following documents:

  • Official academic transcripts for Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees (if applicable)
  • Passport copy
  • CV
  • A statement of purpose which tells us about your motivation to apply for the internship
  • Letter of recommendation from any faculty at your home university (which can be emailed to us directly if preferred)
