Senior Industrial Chemist

JOB DESCRIPTION

Simplifyber is searching for a Senior Industrial Chemist. This is a full-time position in a fast-paced, fast-growing startup. Collaborative, creative, multi-disciplinary team, blending scientific innovation with advanced material design, fashion, and business. Compensation will include both salary and equity. Expertise in Chemistry, Chemical Processing/Engineering, and Materials Innovation is desired. The right candidate will ideally have an advanced degree related to these expertise and 5+ years of applicable industrial experience.

Simplifyber is changing the way soft goods are created. Through our cellulose-based material that starts as a liquid slurry, and our ground-breaking molding processes, we are transforming the world's $2+ trillion Fashion Industry (and centuries-old factory system) into sustainable, additive manufacturing. Our soft goods are made with chemistry and biomaterials rather than with sewing machines, eliminating much of the waste, carbon emissions, and water pollution that have led to fashion’s devastating environmental and social impact.

Location: Raleigh, NC.


 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Chemical processing development: analyzing solution & material chemistry and tuning the chemistry & ingredients to enhance the final material properties.
  • Strategic implementation of scale-up strategies related to the industrial chemistry, processing, and manufacturing of products.
  • Proactive innovative collaboration with chemical suppliers and industrial experts.
  • Oversee documentation and effective communication of improvements/results.

 

MUST-HAVE SKILLS

  • Advanced degree in at least one of the following fields or related subjects: Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, Material Science, Textile Chemistry, Fiber Science, & Polymer Science. 
  • 5+ years of related industrial experience.
  • Experience in chemical analysis and testing, preferably with wet chemistry and water-based mixtures/suspensions.
  • Self-motivated researcher, innovator, strategic thinker, hands-on, and networker/collaborator willing to work hard, in a fast-paced environment with cross functional teams.
  • Proven track record in strategically coordinating and accomplishing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills.


 

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS

  • 10+ years of related industrial experience.
  • Passionate and knowledgeable of green chemistry and sustainable materials.
  • Direct knowledge of textile nonwoven processing & manufacturing.
  • Processing & waste water analysis and treatment.
  • Experience with intellectual property and patent applications.
