As an Experitec Field Service Technician in our Engineering Services organization there is a responsibility and focus on establishing strong relationships with Experitec’s customers. Through these relationships, technicians identify and address areas of improvement within customers’ facilities. Your service opportunities will often include calibration, performance diagnosis, commissioning, and maintenance of instrumentation systems. Position will utilize company-provided vehicle and company-provided tools including hand tools and meters.
A Technician’s career may include experiencing a broad range of opportunities including manufacturing plant troubleshooting and support, working with plant operations, process engineering, maintenance, and technical support. This is an opportunity to work with customers that are largely manufacturing facilities. The Technician may have the opportunity to work in different industries including chemical, power generation, refining, oil & gas, food & beverage, pulp &paper, and water. Experitec provides strong technical and customer service training throughout your career which may include:
- Certifications in Emerson, Rosemount, and Micromotion.

What does the Experitec Field Service Technician do?
The Field Service Technician is responsible for providing instrument services to our customers to maximize the value of their process control systems. Examples of day-to-day activities may include instrument calibration, troubleshooting, specification, selection, and construction support.
Typical work assignments include:
- Performing on-site on-demand and contract field services to support our customer’s installed base. Services will include instrumentation, including diagnostic, troubleshooting, calibration, and start-up and commissioning services.
- Thoroughly tracking all required data and issuing site visit and calibration reports.
- Recommending approaches on repair, replace, and upgrades.
- Providing informal and on-the-job customer training.
- Effectively communicating customer needs and opportunities to the organization and utilizing technical skills and abilities to develop tactics and strategies to support customer needs.
- Partnering with Sales team to execute tactics and strategies to improve customer satisfaction and service growth through available service programs.
- Reporting performance measures towards goals.
- Timely completing all required internal and external reports, certificates, and relevant documents.
- Actively owning safety both individually and for those around them through adherence to all safety and quality rules, and regulations.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Experience & Abilities:
- Possess a hands-on approach, a strong work ethic, refined troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to excellence with a strong desire to lead by example, as well as work with others.
- Associate degree OR High School Diploma or equivalent with two or more years of relevant experience OR similar combination of education and/or experience.
- Two or more years of relevant work experience demonstrating a strong mechanical aptitude.
- Two or more years of experience with installing, troubleshooting, calibrating, repairing, modifying, overhauling, diagnosing, testing and/or maintaining any or all of the following –instrumentation and instrument systems, pumps, motors, motor control and electrical systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and/or Distributed Control Systems DCS.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical schematics.
- Strong ability to focus on customer’s needs and drive toward business goals.
- Basic experience utilizing Microsoft Office Excel & Word, Outlook email, and the ability to work efficiently and effectively within a business system.
- Ability to work at customer sites most days Monday through Friday for 8 hours per day while occasionally working from home or Experitec offices.
- Ability to work overtime as needed with shifts extending beyond 8 hours to meet customer needs.
- Ability to work infrequent weekends and holidays with the flexibility to travel via plane with little notice to meet customer needs.
- Ability to independently travel to customer sites located within our service territory and the territories of our Impact Partners (including ability for regional and cross-country overnight travel 10-35% of the time) utilizing company per diem for meals/lodging.
- Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) with customers and co-workers.
- Ability to comply with site safety regulations and dedication to a safe work environment through ongoing training, housekeeping, and workplace safety.
- Ability to drive for the company with a valid driver’s license, pass driving record background check, and use company vehicle, personal vehicle and/or air travel.
- Ability to utilize personal vehicle for the majority of work travel AND ability to rent a car when requested by supervisor for work travel.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in manufacturing and data center environments with shifting and extreme temperatures.
- Ability to wear PPE as appropriate for potential environmental hazards.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and to perform elevated work.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills, Experience & Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree or associate degree.
- Five or more years of relevant work experience.
- Five or more years of experience with installing, troubleshooting, calibrating, repairing, modifying, overhauling, diagnosing, testing and/or maintaining any or all of the following –instrumentation and instrument systems, pumps, motors, motor control and electrical systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC) and/or the Distributed Control Systems DCS.
- Work experience troubleshooting, commissioning and calibrating instrumentation, field devices, and equipment.
- Prior work experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, temperature, pressure, flow, and/or mechanical dynamics.
- Demonstrated track record of exemplary customer focus.
- Two or more years demonstrating hardware and software configuration skills of basic process control systems including safety instrumented systems.
- Experience recommending and implementing a process improvement initiative.
- Experience with service expansion initiatives that impacted the business.
