Materials Science Engineer Intern

Job Summary

As a Materials Science Engineer Intern at Oldcastle Infrastructure, you will gain hands-on experience in material development, testing, and approval processes. You will work closely with engineers and technical experts to analyze materials, assess their performance, and support various projects that improve product quality and efficiency. This internship is ideal for students passionate about materials science, chemistry, and engineering who are eager to deepen their understanding of material properties and their applications in infrastructure. You will be exposed to various testing methods, material formulations, and quality assurance processes, gaining valuable insight into the development of sustainable and high-performing materials. By the end of the internship, you will have a well-rounded experience in materials science engineering, preparing you for a future career in the field.

 

 This position is expected to start in person around May 2025 and continue through the entire summer term (i.e. through August 2025). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time, onsite for most internships.

 

This internship will be fully in person at our Acworth, GA facility. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in material characterization, including analyzing mechanical and chemical properties.
  • Participate in material approvals, ensuring new materials meet company and industry standards.
  • Operate and maintain testing machines to evaluate material performance.
  • Support research on blend reactions, gaining an in-depth understanding of material science principles.
  • Collect and analyze data to optimize material formulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on different projects related to material innovation and infrastructure solutions.
  • Document findings, prepare reports, and present results to engineering teams.

 

Job Requirements

  • Junior or Senior currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of material testing, chemistry, and mechanical properties.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and testing methodologies is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
