Thermal Process Engineer
Skibo Energy is a startup in Pittsburgh, PA looking to hire a skilled thermal process engineer with a chemical engineering background to join our team. We are designing and implementing a thermal energy storage system to be integrated with electricity power blocks, renewable heat supplies, and industrial process heat. As a thermal process engineer, you will be joining a team responsible for developing and implementing thermal energy storage strategies along with managing energy generation and delivery. Ultimately, your job is to design efficient and effective solutions that deliver clean energy to decarbonize the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
Key Tasks:
Develop process flow diagrams for a variety of complex thermodynamic systems.
Model processes utilizing software tools to solve for state variables like temperature, pressure, and flowrates (currently using DWSIM).
Specify components such as pumps, pipes, fans, valves, and instrumentation based upon system conditions.
Perform safety analyses of processes.
Communicate designs and design decisions with the engineering team and with stakeholders.
Required Skills:
Experience with process-modeling software tools (currently using DWSIM) .
Ability to balance sustainability and system performance.
Extensive knowledge of thermodynamics, including power generation cycles and refrigeration cycles.
Familiarity with codes and regulations for health and safety. (ASME boiler and pressure vessel codes, Federal and State Codes, etc.)
Proven and clear technical communication skills.
Flexibility and agility to adapt to other tasks and roles in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
Ability to receive and implement constructive criticism to improve on designs.
Preferred Qualifications:
B.A Chemical Engineering with 2-5 years of experience, or a Masters or Doctorate degree in a related field
Experience in research and development of thermal systems.
