Engineering Teacher (WMAA)

West Michigan Aviation Academy is currently seeking an Engineering Teacher.  Must have teacher certification with

TE, DP, DI, or DE endorsement.

WMAA is an innovative, academically rigorous charter high school with a focus on hands-on aviation and STEM education. Job Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Engineering Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will inspire students to explore the principles of engineering, foster critical thinking, and promote problem-solving skills through hands-on projects and real-world applications. This role requires a passion for teaching, a solid understanding of engineering concepts, and the ability to engage students with diverse learning styles.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of engineering trends, educational technologies, and industry practices.

Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations.

Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.

Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.

Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students

Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff

Regular and predictable attendance

Cognitive Demands:

Supervision of multiple students at once

Establishing routines and procedures

Maintaining a safe and orderly environment

Create and implement instructional plans

Participate in continuous professional development

Effective oral and written communication skills

Physical Demands:

Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs

Stand and walk frequently

Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat

Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year

Withstand a moderate noise level

Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary

Assist/lift students, as necessary

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Education, or a related field.

Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with a TE, DP, DI, or DE endorsement. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.

Previous teaching experience at the high school level, preferably in engineering or STEM-related subjects.

Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices, with the ability to convey complex concepts in an accessible manner.
