Job Title: Mechanical Engineering Intern
The mechanical engineering intern assists with modernizing and streamlining our engineering drawings and computer-aided design (CAD) models across multiple projects. This includes digitizing and updating assembly drawings, creating optimized panelized PCB drawings, supporting component obsolescence efforts, and ensuring international trade commission (ITC) / export control compliance.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Review hardcopy drawings to verify that digital copies exist on our server.
- If a digital copy is missing, scan the drawing into our server or recreate it using CAD software.
- Assist with manufacturing, sales, and engineering requests that require CAD or drawing updates.
- Support documentation efforts to maintain up-to-date records and accuracy.
- Review printed circuit board (PCB) fabrication drawings and create additional drawings for panelizing boards to optimize production runs.
- Update top-level drawings to reflect the latest requirements for marking, identification, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with the engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure drawings meet production requirements and quality compliance.
- Generate engineering change notices (ECNs) in support of drawing updates and obsolescence efforts.
- Generate reports and presentations regarding design changes and evaluations.
Requirements:
- Goal for this position to turn into a full-time 40-hour work week during the summer.
- Exposure to SolidWorks or related CAD software.
- Experience with GD&T concepts and practices.
- Experience with electrical components and obsolescence management.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently.
- Working knowledge of desktop computers.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Adobe.
