Air Resources Supervisor I

The Vapor Recovery and Fuel Transfer Branch is accepting applications for the Air Resources Supervisor I position. This position is responsible for supervising, planning, organizing, and directing the activities and staff of the Vapor Recovery Certification Section. The Section is responsible for certifying vapor recovery systems and components for gasoline dispensing facilities with underground and aboveground tanks and mobile refuelers (cargo tanks that dispenses gasoline directly to vehicles). Components include in-station diagnostics, a monitoring system that alerts operators of equipment problems (like the “check-engine light of vehicles) and coatings for aboveground storage tanks. The Section also works closely with the other two sections of the Branch and local air districts in updating certification and test procedure regulations, renewing existing certifications, and working with manufacturers and districts to resolve in use component issues. In addition, the Section is responsible for conducting tests of hydrogen fueling stations for passenger cars or light duty vehicles. This position will require the candidate to possess a driver license and to pass training courses (including periodic refresher courses) in first aid/CPR/Fall Prevention and defensive driving, enroll in the DMV Pull Notice Program and maintain a “good” driver status. Additionally, the candidate must be willing to travel more than 25 percent of the time, to work in an industrial environment including exposure to air emissions, fumes, heat, and vehicle traffic, to lift up to 50 pounds, to climb and work at elevated heights, and to wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to a hard hat, safety shoes with toe protection, reflective vest, Nomex overalls, hearing protections, gloves, and safety glasses. This position will require the employee to pass a pre-employment physical.
