The Challenge​​​​​​​

We are looking for an entry-level Engineer to join our Traffic Operations team to help advance the Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) culture and philosophy throughout all stages of planning project implementation.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Support team members and supervisors with project development, contract management, and delivery of projects containing TSMO strategies.
  • Develop and implement regional and statewide TSMO strategies to improve mobility and reliability on arterials and freeways.
  • Support team members with project and contract management.
  • Collaborate with team members across our TSMO sections relating to TSMO planning topics.
  • Support team members with managing funding sources for TSMO projects, and in developing project scopes of work and estimates.
  • Assist teams in collaborating with Professional Engineering Firms (PEFs) and other TSMO stakeholders to develop and implement projects.
  • Maintain a performance metrics dashboard to enable smarter data-driven decisions.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of TSMO planning maps/tools.
  • Support TSO emergency response activities during statewide activations.

What You Bring

  • Knowledge of traffic engineering and TSMO principles.
  • Data analytics experience using tools like Microsoft Access, SAP, SQL, or Excel.
  • Project management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to base judgments on facts, experience, and reasoning, and to clearly present complex topics to diverse groups.
  • Ability to safely operate a state motor vehicle.

Management Prefers

  • Candidates registered as a Professional Engineer in North Carolina.

Note

  • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in engineering; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
