Process Engineer (Escanaba, MI)

Summary Description:
Process Engineers are responsible for working with Operations and Quality management to optimize system performance in the areas of quality, machine efficiency and cost, and new grade development. Work activities will be a mix of on- the-floor trouble-shooting and interpreting data analysis.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide high-quality process support and technical leadership to the mill’s operations group resulting in improved product quality, new product development, productivity and reduced costs.
- Evaluate product improvement or cost optimization projects by conducting trials including development of trial plans and authoring trial reports
- Improve product quality while implementing cost and variability reduction initiatives and improving process and product monitoring systems
- Develop manufacturing specifications for new grades through pilot coater and machine evaluations
- Reduce environmental impact
- Provide technical support for key departments
- Provide problem solving and analytical skills and leadership
- Assist with machine shut downs and start up
- Integrate safety leadership into daily activities
- Provide on-call and weekend duty coverage within a designated rotation
Required Experience and Education:
Minimum Required Experience and Education:
- Experience in pulp or paper (internship, co-op, or full-time role)
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, (electrical or chemical engineering preferred).
- Working knowledge of mill DCS/QCS systems and networking
- Working knowledge of mill data systems, data gathering techniques and statistics
Preferred Experience and Education:
- Two or more years of process engineering or manufacturing experience preferred
Travel: Negotiable

- Self-starter able to work effectively with minimal direct supervision.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
- Possess ambulatory capabilities to move freely about the mill, ascend and descend ladders and stairways, and tolerate temperature extremes.
